Many Madagascar are in need of humanitarian aid due to the following reasons:
- About 1.26 million people are food insecure in the Grand Sud and Grand Sud-Est regions. (UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 2018)
- 13.4 million people in the country require some form of humanitarian assistance. (United Nations Population Fund, 2017)
Islamic Relief USA has worked to combat drought in Madagascar brought on by El Nino. IRUSA has worked to provide school-aged children with improved nutritional statuses and increased clean water and sanitation access. These efforts help to increase the presence of children in school.
